DESCRIPTION:We show that in every codimension greater than one there exist
 s a mod 2 homology class in some closed manifold (of sufficiently high dim
 ension) which can not be realized by an immersion of closed manifold. The 
 proof gives explicit obstructions (in term of cohomology operations).\nWe 
 also prove the corresponding result in which the word "immersion" is repla
 ced by " map with some prescribed finite set of multisingularities".
