DESCRIPTION:The challenges facing the preservation of very recent scientif
ic heritage are legion. The sheer amount of material which modern science
produces\, the size of it (often very very big\, or very very small)\, the
\noften blackboxed and highly perishable nature of equipment and specimen
s all pose problems in storage\, conservation and display. Selection of wh
at to preserve varies as a result of the many different aims of preservati
on\, ranging from teaching in both science and history\, presentation in m
useums\, research and so on. This session brings together different partic
ipants involved in achieving these varied aims\, including scientists\, te
chnicians\, \nhistorians and museum professionals. Any viewpoint is welcom
e in brainstorming solutions to the challenges of preservation and display
of the achievements of modern science.\n\n*Lydia Wilson* is the postdocto
ral fellow on the \nScientific Heritage project in the Department of Histo
ry and Philosophy of Science\, a fellow at ARTIS Center for Conflict Studi
es\, and co-editor of the _Cambridge Literary Review_. She has been a jour
nalist\, writing for publications from _Time_ magazine to the _Times Liter
 ary Supplement_.
