DESCRIPTION:From the structure of DNA to the development of magnetic reson
ance imaging\, many major advances in biology and medicine have come about
by collaboration between physical scientists and biologists. \n\nTo under
stand biological processes the interaction between different disciplines e
nables us to develop technologies to answer questions that were previously
thought to be intractable and to define new questions. As an added incent
ive all the UK and European funding bodies are encouraging physical scient
ists and biologists to work more closely to address fundamental questions
in biology. Young scientists with skills that span these disciplines will
be well placed to obtain future funding.\n\nTo help promote this area\, Cl
are Bryant (Veterinary Medicine)\, Ray Goldstein (DAMTP) and Ben Simons (T
he Cavendish Laboratory) are holding a one-day meeting targeted at late st
age graduate students and early stage postdocs with the specific aim of il
lustrating how multidisciplinary approaches can deliver novel insights. Th
e meeting will consist of talks by scientists using multidisciplinary tech
niques to showcase what is happening within the university.\n\nFree one da
y symposium. Register on the Cambridge Infectious Diseases "website":http:
