DESCRIPTION:As part of a three-year project on Don Quijote de la Mancha’
 s literary and visual adaptations and translations for children in Europe\
 , funded by the Spanish Ministry of Education and Centro de Estudios Cerva
 ntinos\, this talk will examine a selection of illustrations from adaptati
 ons of Don Quijote from the UK\, France\, Greece\, Germany\, Italy\, and T
 he Netherlands published from 1800 until today.  This will be followed by 
 a close textual analysis of Greek and Spanish picturebooks to contrast suc
 h issues as the selection processes employed so as to contemporarize and r
 ender this adult classic “suitable” for twenty-first century young rea
 ders in two different cultural systems\, processes that are obviously link
 ed with ideas of suitability and\, therefore\, censorship.
