DESCRIPTION:The local Langlands conjectures predict a canonical bijection
between\ncertain (L-)packets of representations of a reductive group G ove
r a\np-adic field F\, and the representations of the Weil group of F in th
e\n(Langlands) dual group of G\; the case of GL_1 is given by Local Class\
nField Theory. The conjectures are now proven for general linear groups\na
nd\, more recently\, by relating it to this case\, for symplectic and\nspe
cial orthogonal groups (Arthur). On the other hand\, the\nrepresentations
of these p-adic groups G have been constructed in an\nexplicit way so one
can ask how the data involved in these\nconstructions transfer under the
Langlands correspondence. For general\nlinear groups\, this has been the s
ubject of an ongoing programme of\nBushnell and Henniart. I will talk abou
t work in progress with Blondel\nand Henniart\, where we have been conside
ring what can then be said for\nsymplectic groups.\n
