DESCRIPTION:Self-organized critical dynamics describe self-similar dynamic
s that spontaneously emerge in complex systems poised between order and ra
ndomness. Recent neurophysiological studies provide some empirical support
for the presence of such dynamics in biological neuronal networks. I will
describe neuronal-network modeling studies that 1) associate self-organiz
ed critical dynamics with realistic anatomical complex-network connectivit
y\, and 2) associate critical dynamics with maximized directed information
  transfer\, as inferred using a novel information-theoretical measure.\n
