SUMMARY:Past work and future interests: respectively\, the scattering of A
nyons and Monte Carlo methods - Alexander Matthews

DESCRIPTION:This is a talk in two distinct parts. The first section briefl
y discusses Anyons which are quasi-particles present in certain condensed
matter systems that could be of use in quantum computation. Attempts to fi
nd experimentally verifiable theoretical properties of their behaviour are
detailed. The second section is a review of certain Monte Carlo methods.
There is a bias towards slice sampling\, which is used as a case study to
motivate Markov chain Monte Carlo and exact sampling methods.\n
