DESCRIPTION:This talk discusses properties of Romanian constructions with
matrix knowledge and perception verbs selecting finite phasal CPs (i.e. th
at-indicatives and indicative indirect questions)\, in which the subject o
f the embedded clause\nsurfaces as an ACC DP in the matrix clause under sp
ecific evaluative semantics.\nBased on movement properties and linearizati
on\, it is argued that the DP in RtoO\nundergoes A-bar movement across the
complement CP to the highest specifier of\nthe matrix v*P. Given that\, i
n these contexts\, the embedded subject is probed\nby both [uTop] and [uph
 i/ACC]\, simultaneous A and A-bar effects obtain. More\nspecifically\, bot
h ACC lexicalization and the option of binding the main clause\nsubject wo
uld indicate A-movement\, whereas reconstruction effects\, absence of\npas
sivization and of bare quantifiers indicate A-bar movement. The paper at\n
once contributes to the theoretical debate on cross-linguistic ECM/RtoO an
d to\na more fine-grained understanding of evidential systems.
