DESCRIPTION:Frances Spalding is an art historian\, critic and biographer. 
 Her books include British Art since 1900\, a centenary history of the Tate
 \, and lives of several artists as well as a biography of the poet Stevie 
 Smith. She teaches at Newcastle University where she in Professor of Art H
 istory.\nIn 2009 she published John Piper\, Myfanwy Piper: Lives in Art \,
  to wide acclaim. Her forthcoming talk encapsulates the significance of Jo
 hn Piper (1903-1992)\, whose work continues to reach an unusually wide aud
 ience. She will also refer to the commissions that he undertook for Church
 ill and Robinson college.\nIn celebration of John Piper Churchill College 
 is hosting a special event from the 14 - 18 June 2012. An exhibition of or
 iginal prints will accompany this lecture in the Chapel at Churchill Colle
 ge.
