DESCRIPTION:Zonostrophic instability is one of several mechanisms for gene
 rating and maintaining multiple jets in geophysical and planetary atmosphe
 res and  oceans.  Professor Young will give an informal talk on his curren
 t exploration of its workings.  (Professor Young was recently elected to t
 he US National Academy of Sciences and is well known for his clever theore
 tical work on many problems in atmosphere-ocean dynamics.)
