DESCRIPTION:Within the privacy space\, issues such as location privacy\, l
awful intercept\, and online tracking have been the subject of considerabl
e debate. In Canada\, these issues must be considered within the formal fr
amework of privacy legislation\, which differs from the EU and American re
gimes in significant ways. As a "tame technologist" at the Office of the P
rivacy Commissioner of Canada\, I've been deeply engaged in these subjects
at a practical level\, providing subject-matter expertise for investigati
ons\, legal opinions... and even media interviews. In this talk\, I will o
utline some of the ways in which the spheres of technology\, policy\, and
law intersect\, illustrated with recent real-world examples from my experi
 ences in privacy regulation.
