SUMMARY:Creative Mind and Physical Reality - Prof. Brian Josephson\, Depar
tment of Physics\, University of Cambridge

CONTACT:Prof. Brian Josephson
DESCRIPTION:Traditionally in science\, specific physical laws are the basi
s for understanding all phenomena. Wheeler however argued (in an article
entitled _Law Without Law_) that the laws of physics are the consequence o
f the action of minds (observers) themselves. As will be discussed\, prop
er development of this idea requires consideration of mechanisms of cognit
ive development. This kind of picture offers the possibility of explanatio
ns for certain phenomena\, such as the origin of life\, and the very speci
fic details of musical compositions\, that are hard to understand on the b
asis of conventional thinking.\n\n_This lecture is being given in conjunct
ion with the "bdj50":http://www.phy.cam.ac.uk/Josephson (Josephson semicen
