DESCRIPTION:The aim of the second CAEN seminar is to explore the links bet
 ween the capability approach and issues around quality and equality in sch
 ool settings. The seminar aims to provide an informal and critical platfor
 m\nfor dialogue on how we can think about schooling in terms of human capa
 bilities. It will be organised as a combination of senior and early stage 
 researchers’ presentations and a practical workshop.\n\n\n*The intellect
 ual focus of the seminar:*\n\nThe seminar will aim to provide a focused ex
 ploration\nof how the capability approach can assist in developing\na deep
 er understanding of issues of social justice\,\nquality and equality in ed
 ucation. \n\nThe workshop will aim to address the following questions:\n\n
 1. How can the capability approach be applied to\nevaluate the impact of s
 chooling on student life\nchances? \n\n2. How do student capabilities incr
 ease and decrease informal education settings and what does this tell us\n
 about the quality of schooling?\n\n3. How do the different layers of polic
 y\, leadership and\nteaching create capability friendly settings in a\nsch
 ool?\n\n4. How can the capability approach be applied to\nsupport concerns
  of equity and social justice in\nrelation to the educational engagement o
 f all\nchildren and young people\, especially those at the\ngreatest risks
  of exclusion?\n\nIf you would like to present your work\, please send you

  2012.*\n\nThe seminar is free of charge\, but there are limited spaces av
