DESCRIPTION:The shared nature of the network in today’s multi-tenant dat
a centers implies that network performance for tenants can vary significan
tly. This makes application performance and tenant costs unpredictable\, b
oth key concerns in data centers. Motivated by these factors\, the Predict
able Data Center project aims to address such performance unpredictability
by extending the tenant-provider interface to explicitly account for the
network. To this end\, we provide tenants with a virtual network that guar
antees their network bandwidth. This talk will provide a project overview
with a focus on two key questions\; what motivated our virtual network des
igns and how can they be enforced. We argue that our virtual networks ensu
re a good trade-off between tenant guarantees and tenant costs by guarante
 eing their "aggregate" network bandwidth.
