DESCRIPTION:Proxy information from ice cores\, marine sediment\, and other
archives demonstrate a fascinating spatio-temporal evolution of the coupl
ed climate and biogeochemical system on orbital-to-decadal time scale. How
ever\, we are still far from a complete understanding of the drivers\, mec
hanisms and feedbacks governing past changes in the Earth System. In the p
resentation\, results from transient simulations over glacial-interglacial
periods with the Bern3D climate-carbon cycle model will be discussed. A f
ocus is on mechanisms governing past variations in atmospheric CO2 and the
associated spatial and temporal imprints on carbon isotopes\, deep ocean
carbonate ion concentrations\, and the export of biogenic particles. Resul
ts are compared to proxies from marine and ice archives. Another focus is
how the distribution of neodymium isotopes in the ocean can be applied to
constrain past ocean circulation and water mass distribution. \n\nSelected
