DESCRIPTION:This is joint work with Philippe Gravejat\, Christian Hainzl a
 nd Mathieu Lewin (arxiv.org/1204.2893). Using the Pauli-Villars regulariza
 tion and arguments from convex analysis\, we construct the self-consistent
  polarized Dirac vacuum\, in the presence of small external electromagneti
 c fields. We describe the electrons by a Hartree-Fock-type theory and the 
 photons by a self-consistent classical magnetic potential. The resulting v
 acuum polarization coincides to first order with that of full Quantum Elec
 trodynamics.\n
