DESCRIPTION:Sundials are arguably the earliest form of scientific instrume
 nt.  Modern sundials are an engineer's delight: an elegant mix of art and 
 mathematics.  This talk will show how different kinds of sundials were dev
 eloped to cater for different ways of reckoning time.\n\nFrank King was an
  undergraduate and later a research student in the University of Cambridge
  Department of Engineering before migrating to the Computer Laboratory. He
  is Praelector and Fellow in Computer Science at Churchill College.  He is
  also the University Bellringer and Keeper of the University Clock.  He is
  Chairman of the British Sundial Society and has been involved in the desi
 gn of many sundials in Britain and overseas.\n
