DESCRIPTION:Glutaminolysis is the double de-amination of glutamine to prod
 uce alpha-ketoglutarate\, a process upregulated in cancer cells. Our inves
 tigations showed that glutaminolysis activates mTORC1 and cell growth thro
 ugh the activation of prolyl hydroxylases. This results suggest a mechanis
 m to explain glutamine addiction in cancer cells beyond the energetic dema
 nd\, namely that glutamine sustains cell growth via the activation of mTOR
 C1.
