DESCRIPTION:Breast cancer is the most common cancer in the UK affecting 50
\,000 people every year. Although survival rates are increasing\, 32 women
still die of breast cancer every day. Hayley will discuss the reason why
breast cancer is proving so difficult to treat and will introduce current
research into this disease. She will also illustrate how taking a step bac
k and learning about the basic biology of the normal breast could lead to
better treatments in future. Come along and see why she thinks we need to
get back to basics.\n\nFree food will be provided.\n\nAbout the speaker:\n
\nHayley is a a second year PhD student with Christine Watson in the Depar
tment of Pathology on the Wellcome Trust four year Stem Cell Programme. He
r PhD focuses on the problem of mammary gland lineages and I am working to
identify both mammary gland stem cells and other populations of cells in
the normal breast. She completed my Masters in Stem Cell\nBiology here in
Cambridge and after receiving a Zoology degree at the University of Nottin
 gham.
