DESCRIPTION:In many applications such as Magnetic Resonance Imaging\, imag
es are acquired using Fourier transform measurements. Such measurements ca
n be expensive and so it is of interest to exploit the wavelet domain spar
sity of natural images to reduce the number of measurements without destro
ying the quality of image reconstruction.\n\nMuch work in compressed sensi
ng has been devoted to this and related problems in recent years. However\
, a rigorous theory for sampling with compressive frequency measurements h
as to date only been developed for bases that\, unlike wavelet bases\, are
incoherent to the Fourier basis.\n\nNevertheless\, it has been shown empi
rically that variable density sampling strategies seem to overcome this ob
stacle. We introduce a theory which reveals suitable variable density samp
ling strategies and provides the rst theoretical reconstruction results f
or compressive imaging via frequency measurements.\n\nThis is joint work w
 ith Rachel Ward.
