DESCRIPTION:*Abstract:* Uncertainty quantification and its propagation wit
hin a system is a major area of focus for much of design research includin
g process modeling and design optimisation. New methods of uncertainty qua
ntification based on polynomials and rational methods have arisen over the
past decade that can be easily applied to a host of problems. These metho
ds have shown tremendous success in applications ranging from aerodynamics
\, and structural engineering to the chemical sciences. These methods invo
lve approximating the system using techniques of interpolation and quadrat
ures\, and then propagating the error in inputs through the interpolated a
pproximation. This talk provides an overview of a few of these methods and
a few aerospace applications.\n\n\n*About the speaker:* Pranay Seshadri i
s a researcher at the Engineering Design Centre working on topology optimi
sation\, computational fluid dynamics and uncertainty quantification towar
ds robust turbomachinery design. He has an MS and BS in aerospace engineer
 ing.
