DESCRIPTION:IMCOAST is an international research programme on the impact o
f climate induced changes on marine coastal systems at King George Island
(Western Antarctic Peninsula). It features a multidisciplinary approach in
volving geo and biological sciences\, field investigations\, remote sensin
g and modeling and knowledge into the hydrographical and biological histor
y of the marine coastal ecosystems. The objectives are:\n\nTo quantify var
iability and changes in fresh water budgets in coastal ecosystems and to p
rovide the physical boundary conditions for geochemical\, sedimentological
and biophysical research\n\nUnderstand the effect of glacial retreat on s
ub-glacial and land run-off dynamics at in the past and present\n \nAna
lyse carbon recycling in the sediment surface of coastal systems with and
without impact of sedimentation\, and the bentho-pelagic coupling in KGI c
oastal food webs\n\nThis presentation will provide an overview of ongoing
 IMCOAST research and current results.
