DESCRIPTION:I investigate the prospects for constraining alternative theor
ies of gravity with a new observational technique\, the 21 cm intensity ma
 p. I will discuss the merits of this approach\, and demonstrate the existe
nce of new large-scale contributions to the signal from relativistic effec
ts. I will also address the issue of how best to parameterise modified gra
 vity in the cosmological setting.\n
