DESCRIPTION:Over the last decade\, experiments at RHIC and at the LHC have
\ndemonstrated that the fragmentation pattern of highly energetic partons\
 nis altered strongly in ultra-relativistic nucleus-nucleus collisions.\nTh
is so-called jet quenching motivates using such hard processes as\nwell-ca
librated hard probes of dense QCD matter. A central challenge for\ntheoret
ical work is to relate\, in a quantitatively controlled and\nunambiguous w
ay\, the observed jet quenching to fundamental properties of\nthe QCD matt
er that induces them.\nI will give an introduction to the phenomenology an
d theoretical\ninterpretation of jet quenching and discuss the recent atte
mpt to\ndescribe the modification of jets based on perturbative QCD alone.
