DESCRIPTION:Conventional slurry trench methods of constructing low-permeab
ility vertical barriers\nhave been widely used in the past but more recent
ly in situ mixing using the Trench\nRemixing and Deep wall method (TRD) ha
s been introduced to the US. The TRD\nmethod is a one-phase process that i
nvolves the simultaneous\, full-depth cutting and\nmixing of in situ soils
with additives to create\, in place\, a continuous soil mixed wall. A\nbl
end of cementitious materials (granulated ground blast furnace slag and Po
rtland\ncement) and slurry are injected as the milling/cutting proceeds ho
rizontally resulting in\ncontinuous vertical mixing of in situ soils with
the injected materials. Details of the\ntechnique will be presented as wel
l as an evaluation of the wall performance at the\nHerbert Hoover Dike at
Lake Okeechobee\, Florida. Performance issues addressed
