DESCRIPTION:This presentations introduces the mechanisms of soil-structure
interaction for piled buildings adjacent to deep excavations in urban are
as\, with a focus on typical soft soil conditions. \nThe main questions t
hat will be answered are: How can we predict the behaviour of one or more
buildings when a deep excavation will be constructed? What kind of modelli
ng and/or measurements can be used to predict this effect? \n\nAssess
ing the response of buildings to excavation-induced deformations involves
a combination of geotechnical and structural aspects\, such as green field
displacements (2D/3D\, caused by deep excavations)\, building behaviour\,
soil – foundation - building interaction\, monitoring techniques and mo
delling techniques. In this talk these topics are presented with special a
ttention given to a case study of the construction of three deep stations
and a shield tunnel in the historic city of Amsterdam\, The Netherlands.\n
