DESCRIPTION:A talk by Andrew Fraser\, Manager\, Gasoline Powertrain Develo
 pment\, at Ford's Dunton Technical Centre on the Ford 1.0 Ecoboost three-c
 ylinder turbo engine.\n\nThe talk will first discuss some of the external 
 pressures which are pushing manufacturers to develop downsized petrol engi
 nes\, and how they compare with alternative petrol and Diesel engine techn
 ologies. It will then explain how Ford has developed the overall concept a
 nd key features of the Ecoboost engine range\, before going on to look at 
 some specific design and development aspects that are unique to the 1.0 li
 tre version\, which was winner of the International Engine of the Year 201
 2.\n\nAndrew Fraser graduated with a BSc Hons in Mechanical Engineering fr
 om the University of Edinburgh in 1986. He worked for Ford focusing on pet
 rol and Diesel powertrain development\, working two years in Detroit and f
 our years in Cologne. His current role is manager of the petrol engine cal
 ibration and development group at Dunton\, a group of approximately 100 en
 gineers developing engines of up to 2 litres capacity for deployment in Fo
 rd vehicles in Europe and worldwide. He is a Fellow of the Institution of 
 Mechanical Engineers and member of the AD board.\n\nThis event is jointly 
 organised by the IMechE Beds and Cambs Area\, the Essex and East Centres o
 f the IMechE Automotive Division and IET Cambridge.
