DESCRIPTION:\nWe use estimates of radiative forcing over the past century
in conjunction with the simplest energy-balance model imaginable to constr
uct probabilistic estimates of the transient climate sensitivity of the cl
imate system. The transient climate sensitivity (TCS) is the warming that
will occur on decadal and multi-decadal timescales due to specified increa
sed greenhouse gases. The TCS is to be distinguished from the equilibrium
climate sensitivity (ECS)\, which is the warming that hypothetically occur
s after many centuries of increased greenhouse gas levels.
