DESCRIPTION:The human endometrium is a complex multi-cellular\, sex steroi
d-dependent tissue located within the lumen of the uterus. The endometrium
is a remarkable tissue that exhibits cyclical episodes of scarless healin
g\, regeneration\, and angiogenesis all processes considered features of d
eveloping tissues or cancers. Our studies are focused on studying the role
of sex steroids and their receptors in regulation of angiogenesis\, infla
mmation and tissue repair. We use both primary human tissue and novel mous
e models. Our studies are shedding new light on the origins of disorders i
ncluding endometriosis a condition associated with chronic pain and infert
 ility.
