DESCRIPTION:Lovelock theory is the natural extension of general relativity
to higher dimensions. It can be also thought of as a toy model for ghost-
free higher curvature corrections in gravitational theories. It genericall
y admits a family of AdS vacua\, most (but not all) of them supporting bla
ck hole solutions that display interesting features. This provides an appe
aling arena to explore different holographic aspects in the context of the
AdS/CFT and the fluid/gravity correspondences. I will elaborate on many o
f these features and will discuss a new type of phase transition possibly
arising in the realm of quantum corrected gravitational theories.
