DESCRIPTION:Corrosion is of huge concern in almost all industry sectors\,
costing time\, money\, and even lives. Given this importance\, a great de
al of effort is directed towards thwarting corrosion\, with activity rangi
ng from implementation of practical engineering solutions to studies aimed
at gaining mechanistic understanding. In this talk\, I will discuss rese
arch undertaken in my group targeting the latter area. I will present wor
k to clarify the functionality of corrosion inhibitors\, to identify scal
es formed in oilfield environments\, and to determine the surface structur
e of model stainless steel surface films as a function of environment.
