DESCRIPTION:Monoclonal antibodies have been prepared against porphyrins\,
rhodium phosphine complexes\, and binaphthyl derivatives. The monoclonal a
ntibody-porphyrin complex was found to catalyze some redox reactions as en
zymes do. In addition\, the antibody for porphyrin-acceptor was found to b
ind porphyrin and when the complex was irradiated by visible light in the
presence of viologen and hydrogenase or platinum colloid\, hydrogen gas wa
s evolved from aqueous solution. The efficiency is the highest in the prot
ein-porphyirin systems. The monoclonal antibody against rhodium phosphine
complex was found to bind the complex and the compound was found to cataly
ze hydrogenation of amino acid precursors to give almost 100% L-amino acid
\, although the rhodium phosphine complex is achiral. This is due to the
 second-sphere coordination effects.
