 nal linguistics techniques\, spawning\na large number of startups\, and ge
 nerating a lot of commercial interest. In this talk I summarise recent res
 earch and trends in sentiment analysis\, look at some relatively novel app
 lications\, and also\ncritically examine various claims that have been mad
 e about the role of sentiment analysis in tasks like stock market predicti
 on and election result forecasting. \n
