DESCRIPTION:In the first talk\, I want to discuss the basic principles of
Bayesian inference applied to inverse problems. First\, I will outline the
concepts behind this methodology\, point to connections to variational re
gularization and ridge regression and highlight some possible benefits of
Bayesian inference over other approaches. After that\, I will focus on the
process of Bayesian modeling\, \nIn addition\, I will address some common
objections against the explicit use of Bayesian techniques in practice an
d discuss some recent results and trends in this area.\n\nSlides of this t
alk can be downloaded at http://wwwmath.uni-muenster.de/num/burger/organiz
