DESCRIPTION:The city of Christchurch and the surrounding towns in the Cant
erbury region of New Zealand suffered significant damage during the 2010-2
011 Canterbury earthquake series. The most damaging was the Mw 6.2 earthqu
ake on the 22 February 2011\, resulting in 185 fatalities and severe damag
e to buildings and infrastructure. A major factor in this damage\, and the
damage in other earthquakes in the series was the severity and spacial ex
tent of liquefaction. This presentation will provide an overview of the li
quefaction-induced damage to the region during the Canterbury earthquake s
eries and the progression of damage as a result of repeated liquefaction i
 n many areas.\n
