DESCRIPTION:In 1863\, the historian Ernest Renan published a "Life of Jesu
 s" that treated the founder of Christianity as if he were any other human 
 being.  This talk will explore the sources for understanding how  ordinary
  people responded to one of the nineteenth century's  bestselling and most
  controversial non-fiction books.\n
