DESCRIPTION:It is well understood that humans and computers have different
strengths\nand weaknesses when it comes to solving problems. But what hap
pens when\nthey need to work together? Is computational power\, human inge
nuity or\nsome mix of the two the key factor in arriving at the most effic
ient\nsolution? This talk will explore a surprising example from the world
of\nchess that helps to explain why Palantir chooses to build software in
the\nway it does.\n\nTim Ronan was one of Palantir's first engineers in t
heir Washington DC\noffice. Throughout Tim's time at Palantir\, he has led
our work with US\nFederal Law Enforcement customers\, started Palantir's
business in New\nZealand\, and been responsible for leading product vision
on several\ntransformative capabilities. Tim is now based in London where
he ensures\nthe success of Palantir's work across the UK\, Europe\, Latin
America\, and\nCanada. Tim received his Bachelors degree from the Univers
ity of Notre\nDame in Aerospace Engineering and his Masters degree from th
 e University\nof Virginia.\n\nAdmission free to CUCaTS members\, £2 other
wise. Membership may also be bought at the door. As usual refreshments wil
l be served 15 minutes before the start of the talk.
