DESCRIPTION:We live in a universe uniquely suited to our existence\, which
  is\nfilled with galaxies\, stars\, planets and the molecular building\nbl
ocks of life.\nOn Earth\, single-celled life forms exist in rocks\, ice an
d boiling\nwater\, suggesting that such life would be impossible to destro
y\nbefore our Sun becomes a red-giant.\nWe listen with our radio telescope
s and look for pulses of laser\nlight\, but have so far heard and seen not
hing\, suggesting that\ntechnologically advanced life elsewhere in the Uni
verse\, might be\nvery rare.\nIn this lecture Dr. Catchpole will take a cl
oser look at our solar\nsystem and the emergences of intelligent life and
consider why\nthe human population on Earth might be the only self-aware\n
 observers of our Universe.
