DESCRIPTION:An MHD extension of the hydrodynamical solver EULAG [1] has be
en recently shown to simulate regular magnetic cycles and dynamo action\,
unprecedented in global simulations of solar magneto-convection [2\, 3].
The lecture will highlight the mathematical and numerical features distin
guishing EULAG from standard anelastic solar codes\, including generalized
time-dependent coordinate transformation and nonoscillatory forward-in-ti
me integration schemes. The results illustrate advantages of the implicit
large-eddy-simulation (ILES) approach\, together with evidence that treat
ment of small scales may be critical for the production of cyclic behaviou
r and regular polarity reversals in this type of global simulations.\n\nRe
