DESCRIPTION:Tristan's background: Tristan is a Wellcome Trust Biomedical R
esearch Fellow at the MRC Cognition and Brain Sciences Unit. He has wide I
nterests in Cognition and neurophysiology. In the last few years he has be
en mainly concentrating in describing different states of consciousness su
ch as awake\, sleep\, sedation\, vegetative state. His new line of work is
primarily\nlooking at how we lose consciousness and how we get it back.\n
\nHe is mainly attacking the limits of cognition in the process of falling
asleep or getting sedated (losing consciousness) with a combination of be
havioural measures\, brain markers of cognitive processes and brain\nmarke
rs of the micro-conscious state. Together with his students and collaborat
ors they use behaviour measures\, electromyography\, electroencephalograph
y\, functional MRI\, intracranial electrodes and transcranial magnetic sti
mulation\, to respond the main questions at the\nintersection between awar
 eness and wakefulness.\n
