  gas meters facilitate two way real time communication between energy grid
 s and energy consumers. They encourage efficient use of energy within the 
 household\, allow the accomodation of higher levels of renewable energy an
 d improve energy security. However will the costs of rolling these meters 
 out to every household really be justified by the likely benefits?\n\n\n
