DESCRIPTION:Several Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) packages exist for mod
elling and simulating systems using the discrete event\, continuous or age
nt-based paradigms. In this presentation\, through a number of examples fr
om personal experience\, I will contrast one of the most widely used packa
ges ARENA® and one of the most recently developed packages SIMIO®. \n\n
My aim is to share my own work and experience in systems modelling and sim
ulation using these two packages and most importantly to engage with other
researchers in the university who may have similar experience or interest
in the use of these and (or) other systems modelling and simulation tools
. \n\nThe examples to be discussed would include the modelling and simulat
ion of an Accident and Emergency department\, an operating theatre system\
, geographically distributed hospital ward system and a paediatric neurops
 ychological service system.\n\n
