DESCRIPTION:We shall discuss developments in the mathematical analysis of 
 the Prandtl equations\, involved in the  description of high Reynolds numb
 er flows near a solid wall. The Cauchy theory for these equations is trick
 y\, and  turns out to be very dependent on the choice of the functional sp
 aces. I shall report recent progress on that problem\, based on a joint wo
 rk with Nader Masmoudi.
