SUMMARY:The LHC Project: the Higgs Boson and beyond - Prof. Andy Parker\,
 Department of Physics
DTSTART:20121116T180000Z
DTEND:20121116T190000Z
UID:TALK41519@talks.cam.ac.uk
CONTACT:Martha Henriques
DESCRIPTION:The talk will discuss the physics and experiments behind the r
ecent discovery of a "Higgs-like boson" at the Large Hadron Collider\, rev
iewing the standard model of particle physics and the motivation behind th
e Higgs hypothesis. The most recent data will be shown\, and the open ques
tions which remain will be discussed. The standard model is still incomple
te\, for example not covering gravity. Some work in Cambridge to search fo
r evidence of new physics processes such as the production of quantum-size
d black holes will also be covered.\n\nYou can view Prof Parker's biograph
