 er current version of Euripides' _Trojan Women_\, which is currently recei
 ving its world premiere at the Gate Theatre\, Notting Hill (8th November-1

 .\n\nAn extraordinarily powerful adaptation which channels the visceral bo
 ldness of Euripides' original gesture\, the play's female captives are hel
 d in the mother-and-baby unit of a modern prison at the epicentre of a war
  zone as the fallen queen\, Hecuba\, tries to make sense of the shocking n
 ew reality with which she is confronted. Bird is a remarkable poet and tel
 ls the story with caustic lyricism and morbid wit.\n\n*Caroline Bird*\nHer
  previous theatre credits include _Sixty-six Books_ (Bush Theatre) where s
 he wrote a piece inspired by Leviticus\, and _The Trial of Dennis the Mena
 ce_ (Purcell Room\, Southbank Centre)\, a musical inspired by _The Beano_.
  She is the author of three poetry collections: _Looking Through Letterbox
 es_\, _Trouble Came to the Turnip_\, and _Watering Can_. She has been shor
 tlisted twice for the Dylan Thomas Prize\, and _Watering Can also achieved
  a Poetry Book Society Recommendation_. She was one of the five official p
 oets at London Olympics 2012\, and her poem 'The Fun Palace' is now erecte
 d on the Olympic Site.\n\n*Henry Stead*\nA poet and translator\, Henry Ste
 ad is an associate of Oxford's Archive of Performances of Greek and Roman 
 Drama (APGRD). He researches the reception of classical culture\, especial
 ly in British poetry and drama.  Recent shows include _Prometheus Chained_
  (Sheffield\, 2012) and _Seneca's Medea_ (Oxford\, 2011).  In January 2013
  he will take up an appointment as a Research Associate at King's College\
 , London.
