DESCRIPTION:The potential for parents to influence their children’s form
 al and leisure time education has far-reaching impact on social class ineq
 ualities for children in many societies. Using narratives from immigrant p
 arents on the significance of arts education\, Dr. Hofvander Trulsson will
  discuss perspectives on middle-class formation in relation to parents’ 
 choices\, concerted cultivation and social mobility. How does leisure time
  learning relate to social class? What are parents’ discourses of arts e
 ducation and social reproduction/ reconstruction? These questions will be 
 discuss in relation to a partial meta-analysis of studies from Sweden\, No
 rway\, Korea\, the UK\, and the US.\nThe seminar will consist of a present
 ation and an open discussion with Professor Diane Reay from University of 
 Cambridge\, expert in the field of education\, social class\, gender and e
 thnicity.\n\nBio: Dr. Ylva Hofvander Trulsson (MMus\, MEd\, PhD) is presen
 tly visiting scholar/post doc at Faculty of Education\, University of Camb
 ridge. The presentation is a part of her postdoctoral research project\, M
 usical Learning and Discipline - discourses on social mobility of immigran
 t parents and their children\, financed by the Swedish Research Council. Y
 lva is originally from the Faculty of Fine and Performing Arts\, Lund Univ
 ersity in Sweden.\n
