DESCRIPTION:Radio communications remains a fertile area for research into 
 new technologies\, as practical systems generally remain far from the Shan
 non-Hartley limit.  This presentation will highlight some interesting rece
 nt developments\, such as the Weightless White Space system\, novel ad-hoc
  communications links for specialist applications\, and research on effici
 ency of modulation schemes.  Challenges will be discussed in the developme
 nt of spectrally-efficient agile radio front ends\, improvement of near-co
 nstant-envelope modulations\, and mesh networking protocols.  Research in 
 these and related areas could be of great benefit to users of mobile phone
 s and other connected devices.
