DESCRIPTION:How does work get done in living systems\, at different levels
of biological organisation?\nCan answers to that question help to us to b
etter understand crucial questions about organisms\,\nincluding humans? Th
ese are questions posed by Work Meets Life\, developed by a group of resea
rchers\nfrom the University of Colorado and the University of Cambridge\,
including Darwin College\, and\ncovering topics from cellular physiology t
o information demands in neurons to limits on organisms\ninvesting attenti
on in work tasks.\n\nOur special workshop starts with a lunchtime seminar
giving an overview of this biologically\nintegrative approach\, then focus
es on the impact of intensive energetic requirements for transmitting\ninf
ormation in neural systems. The regular 15-minute question period will fol
low the presentation\, and\nthen after a short break\, we will have an opt
ional interactive continued discussion\, focused on\nimplications for util
izing this approach in understanding crucial natural sciences research que
 stions –\nincluding you own.
