DESCRIPTION:Rare B meson (and baryon) decays are an ideal place to search
for the effects of new particles that could arise in many extensions of th
e Standard Model and couple to the flavour sector. I will introduce the di
fferent types of rare decay measurement performed by LHCb in 2011 and 2012
and discuss the relationship between these different measurements. This d
iscussion will include two of LHCb's flagship channels\, Bs --> mu mu and
B --> K* mu mu. The implications of these measurements on models containin
g new particles at the TeV- and multi-TeV scale will also be explored.
