DESCRIPTION:Dr Mwaka- a qualified medical doctor and lecturer at the Schoo
 l of Medicine\, is currently pursuing a PhD degree at Makerere University 
 as a THRiVE Fellow (http://www.thrive.cam.ac.uk). He is mentored by Profes
 sor Martin Roland CBE of the Department of Public Health and Primary Care 
 in Cambridge. In Dr Mwaka's presentation\, he will explore the influence o
 f cultural knowledge/beliefs on factors that increase/decrease cervical ca
 ncer risk\, incidence and early detection\, the interpretation of symptoms
  and signs of cancer of the cervix within the cultural context\, and the i
 nfluence that such interpretation has for preventive measures and health-s
 eeking in Uganda.
